The IIS-ED Award is dedicated to acknowledge extraordinary contributions to the work of the International Isotope Society – European Division and to honour outstanding scientific achievements in the field of isotope chemistry and applications of isotopically labelled compounds.
Award
The award consists of a certificate, a cashless prize and financial reimbursement for IIS-ED meeting attendance on occasion of the award ceremony. Scientific awardees will be invited to present their scientific work at the IIS-ED Bad Soden workshop.
Nomination Process
The whole isotope synthesis community is asked to submit proposals together with a short justification to the board of the IIS-ED. The board will discuss and finally decide on the submitted proposals for the IIS-ED Award.
All material should be submitted by e-mail to the board of the IIS-ED: info@iis-ced.de.
The recipient should be a European scientist with strong contributions in isotope science over many years in ideally more than one isotope application research fields.
The prize includes the registration, travel costs and hotel for the participation at the next Bad Soden Meeting. In addition, it contains a prize donation payment of 500€.
Furthermore, the recipient is expected to give after the laudation a 30-40 min talk of her/his
highlights and scientific achievements in Isotope Science.
The prize was initiated in 2019 by the board of Dr. Volker Derdau, Dr. Thomas Hartung and Dr. Dietrich Seidel to foster and acknowledge outstanding scientific contribution in Isotope Chemistry and connected applications.
All members of the IIS-CED can nominate a potential prize winner for the following year. Please send your nomination with a brief justification to the board.
2019 Dr. Charles Elmore (Astrazeneca, Sweden)
2022 Dr. Volker Derdau (Sanofi, Germany)
Last EIS prize Winners
At the 24th workshop on “The Synthesis and Applications of Isotopes and Isotopically Labelled Compounds” of the International Isotope Society- Central European Division (IIS-CED) chapter in Bad Soden – Germany, on the 19-20th September 2019 the first recipient of the newly established European Isotope Science Award was awarded. After a great presentation, Dr. Charles Elmore (AstraZeneca, Sweden) was awarded for his outstanding contribution to Isotope Chemistry during his long-standing career. The board of the IIS-ED, Dr. Volker Derdau (president, Sanofi Germany), Dr. Thomas Hartung (Vice president, Roche Switzerland) and Dr. Dietrich Seidel (Treasurer, Bayer Germany) explained why a European price recognizing the achievements of excellent scientists in Europe promotes the community spirit of inclusion in times where there are broader sentiments of politico-cultural separation and national egoism. Researchers with a proven track record in fostering collaboration and community networks are considered to be excellent candidates for the newly established award. The IIS-CED board hopes that this is the first step for the nomination as Melvin Calvin awardee, the highest scientific prize in Isotope Science awarded to eminent isotope chemists from the global IIS organization every three years.
Last winners IIS award
Dr. Dieter Muri and Dr. Dietrich Seidel were awarded the IIS-ED award 2022 for their outstanding contributions to the Isotope Community in Europe. Both served in the board or as organizers of the Bad Soden meeting for many years.
